About Us

The University of Kent Student Chapter of the Optical Society of America (OSA) was founded on the 28th November, 2011 and it is the third OSA chapter created by post-graduate students in Optics in the United Kingdom.

OSA generously provides us every year funding and grants for invited lecturers, scientific workshops, symposia, professional development and promoting Optical Physics to the young minds. Each year a chapter officer is also awarded a travel grant to attend the student leadership workshop, which is co-located with the OSA Annual Meeting, Frontiers in Optics, where he/she has the opportunity to attend a top conference and to exchange ideas with other student chapter leaders from around the world. Additional benefits include substantial meeting registration and subscription discounts, two free scientific magazine subscriptions and 50 free Optics InfoBase downloads (articles from prestigious journals like Optics Letters and others).

We encourage all the undergraduate or postgraduate students who are interested in joining our chapter to contact us by email, or just pop into the Photonics Building, room Jennison GF.04.
